Bioware today announced the official date that the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic will be released for Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore.

After launching in the Europe and the US just before Christmas last year, Bioware’s epic Star Wars: The Old Republic has become the fastest growing MMO of all time. Now it’s finally our turn with SW:TOR set for release here on March 1st 2012. Not only that but EA are also launching a Asia Pacific server for the game at the same time which will help minimize any lag times as well as allow Aussie players to all play together on the same server.

For those of you out there who imported copies of SW:TOR and have accounts on US or European servers, Bioware and EA are offering a deal for a limited time. For a short time around the launch window they will be offering free character transfers to the local server for you guys, so you will be able to shift over without a worry.

The game will retail at AUD$79.99 for the Standard Edition and AUD$89.99 for the deluxe edition. There is also a pre-order incentive of an “in-game colour crystal” which will allow you to change your weapon’s effect. Oh and you’ll also get a “Founder’s medal” in game, which is a special distinction given to early adopters of the game. As is common with MMO’s there is an ongoing monthly fee to play the game, although every copy of the game will come with 30 days free. That is USD$14.99 per month, USD$41.97 for three months (a saving of USD$3) or USD$77.94 for 6 months (a saving of USD$12).
