Why The 3DS Price Drop Does Not Spell Doom For Handheld Gaming

Recently Nintendo announced a massive price cut for the 3DS, dropping it from US$250 to US$169 (AU$350 down to AU$250 in Australia) due to poor consumer uptake of the new console. This comes a mere four months after the release of the unit (April 2011) which has prompted a large number of websites to deem this to be a foreshadowing of the death of handheld gaming in this form. I disagree.

Firemint Drops First Gameplay Trailer of SPY mouse

Aussie developers Firemint announced their latest project back in March at the Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. At the time the new game was being shown off with the name Agent Squeek, however since then they have given it a new name and it’s nearly ready for launch.

Tin Man Games Take You To The Undercity

While lead programmer Ben Britten is over in San Francisco for the GDC, Melbourne-based developer Tin Man Games’ founder Neil Rennison yesterday announced the launch of the fifth title in their epic Gamebook Adventure series called Catacombs of the Undercity. The new book is set to return the player to Orlandes City, the setting of the first book, however this time you will be exploring its dark underworld.
